Ethical Cute Christmas Gifts! And why you should shop ethical ‚ô•

I put on my best hippy face (and giant eyebrows face) I could for this post, but it really is something that’s close to my heart. I source most of my wardrobe second-hand from Charity shops, boot fairs and Ebay, not only is it more ethical to do so, but it’s cheaper AAAAND you get to keep those VAT pennies away from the naughty Government. WIN-WIN!

Being an ethical shopper is a big thing for me, and Christmas always proves to be tricky for the conscious. Black Friday sales happen in the biggest retailers, and they don’t always have the best rap-sheet when it comes to fairly sourcing their products, or even how they treat their own employees in the rush. FIGHT DA MAN! I AIN’T NO TESCO HOE! And a happy new year to you too.

Ethical shopping means knowing and supporting companies who source their products fairly, and as ethically as possible. In today’s world where sweatshops are still thought of as a 90’s ‘thing’ that ended and now everything is hunky-dory-companies-aren’t-bastards-happy-shopping-land, and we have corporations like Wal-Mart who have more financial clout than entire COUNTRIES, we really need to make an effort to ensure that no cruelty is in the products we purchase. Where we put our money is effectively how we vote for companies in the free market. YAY ECONOMIC THEORY

So I have scoured the internet looking for the cutest pressies you could ever beg Father Christmas for – and be ethical about it at the same time! All so you don’t have to keep looking at the same hippy bags wondering where on earth all the ethical goods you really want are instead.

The one stumbling block I really had was how to approach sourcing your lolita clothing and accessories as finding out the origins of the tailoring involved is hard to trace with brands like Baby The Stars Shine Bright or Angelic Pretty. How are you supposed to find all that out with only a conversational level of Japanese to rely on? So for that reason, I avoided picking branded things, unless they came specifically from an ethical company. But I found lots of home-grown alternatives, and it’s so important to support the indie designers to help them keep creating all the awesome stuff you could ever want!! I especially love Shinku Rose‘s stuff. HAPPY FASHION FACE ūüėÄ
